Meet Insurance Expert Paul F Amoruso, CPCU

With more than 55 years of insurance industry experience, I have developed an extensive understanding of property casualty claims, insurance operations, agency responsibilities, and industry practices. My career includes working with major insurance carriers and serving as a Senior Vice President of Claims and Operations, along with experience as a licensed insurance agent and former public adjuster.

Today, I apply this background as an insurance expert and consultant. I assist law firms, insurance companies, insureds, and others seeking an independent review of insurance-related issues involving litigation, claims handling, operations, practices, or procedures. My work may address insurance matters on a local or national basis.

Decades of Property Casualty Insurance Experience

My professional background has allowed me to understand property casualty insurance from several perspectives. Senior leadership responsibilities in claims and operations provided direct experience with insurance company procedures, claims practices, and the practical considerations involved in handling insurance matters.

I have also worked as a licensed insurance agent and previously as a public adjuster. I have held insurance agent licenses in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Florida, and Minnesota.

This experience provides useful context when evaluating complex insurance questions. Claims handling issues, for example, may also involve company procedures, agency responsibilities, policy considerations, and accepted industry practices. I consider these factors together to provide a clear and informed insurance perspective.

Independent Insurance Consulting

My approach begins with understanding the specific insurance questions presented. I review the relevant information and consider it in relation to established insurance principles, practices, and procedures.

Depending on the matter, this may include insurance company issues, insurance agency practices, claims handling, policy questions, workers' compensation, and good faith or potential bad faith considerations.

An independent review should not begin with a predetermined conclusion. My role is to evaluate the insurance issues presented and provide professional observations based on the available information and relevant industry considerations.

Expert Witness and Trial Testimony Experience

I provide opinions and expert trial testimony concerning insurance matters in State and Federal court. I have testified more than 40 times across more than 20 states and have been involved in matters for both plaintiff and defense attorneys.

My experience includes preparing reports for matters in federal court and addressing questions involving claims handling, insurance company and agency practices, bad faith considerations, and insurance principles and procedures.

Expert testimony can require complex insurance concepts to be understood by people outside the industry. I focus on presenting relevant information clearly, objectively, and in understandable terms.

My broader experience also includes insurance matters arising from major hurricanes, including issues associated with Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy.

Every insurance matter is different. I provide an informed perspective based on relevant industry practices and professional experience.
